Fit To Start?Everything working? Before starting any new kind of exercise, it's best to have a checkup with your GP to take stock. If you have any injuries or weaknesses, you will need to tell the teacher of a class what they are before you start. They will be able to advise you what will help and what to avoid. If You're Still Breathing... Having said that there are few reasons not to start yoga. You will always work within your own capacity, which will expand naturally the more you practice. Yoga can help a huge range of conditions if pursued carefully. If you can breathe, yoga has something to offer you, although astanga may not be the first port of call. When to Take Special Care You should seek special advice, consulting your doctor and the yoga teacher, if you have any of the following conditions (and the same goes for other exercise too):
High blood pressure All Set To Go - Now What? Get some comfortable clothing that moves with you and doesn't dig in anywhere. Wear thin layers so you can take them on and off as you get hotter or cooler. If you have long hair, tie it where it won't annoy you. Yoga is practiced barefoot, but you might want to have some thick socks to hand for the relaxation phase of class. Yoga is practised on an empty stomach. Make sure your food and water intake is adequate and stops at least 1 hour before you practise. Don't drink during practise. Wait until after. Still Got Questions? Send your query to one of the teachers on the Teachers page.
